Prepare for a prehistoric adventure this session! Campers will learn about dinosaurs that roamed the earth millions of years ago. Dig for dino bones, build a dinosaur replica, and munch on dino snacks in a dino cave. Take a hike to find prehistoric lizards that once walked the earth (or at least around the Central West End!).

Come and “tinker” with us! Your child will design, build, concoct and discover as they explore a variety of materials in our Tinker Lab. They will be challenged to experiment with various materials to design works of art, build structures using loose parts, concoct potions and edible investigations, and discover the natural world guided by their curiosity. Campers will keep an Idea Journal of questions, discoveries and inventions. The Tinker Lab encourages creative and flexible thinking, problem solving and cooperative learning and it’s fun! We’ll visit a tinker TECH Shop at the Magic House, the Discovery Room at the Science Center and see Alice In Wonderland at Kirkwood Theater.

Adventure Camp Session 1: Innovation Lab

Learn how to think like a designer! Do you like to build? Campers will spend time in our Innovation Lab creating and designing, building and tearing down then rebuilding until we get it right. Receive materials and challenges each week: bend the rules, don’t break them! Each challenge has guidelines: for example, campers must build a bridge that is the width of a canyon but with enough room for cars to move freely. Campers will tap into their inner engineer, learning principles like compression, tension, and much more. Invent a NEW device! The possibilities are endless. We’ll daytrip to the Myseum, the Arch, and City Garden, splash at a waterpark, and more!

Jr. Explorers Session 1: Inventor’s Workshop

Campers will use our Innovation Lab to get their creative juices flowing! Imagine how the future will look. Now picture yourself inventing something that will impact the world in appositive way. Campers will be given mini design challenges using the engineering design process. How tall a tower can you make out of one piece of paper? How many pennies will your straw raft hold? Will your team design the winning invention that will lift an object and move it to another place? The LAB is the place to be! We will daytrip twice each week this session. What a fantastic way to start off the summer!

Counselor In Training (C.I.T.) Week

The week is designed for students who have completed 7th grade and are interested in training to be a Junior Camp Counselor. C.I.T.’s will receive guidance and feedback throughout this experience. After successfully completing this weeklong intensive camp, C.I.T.’s will be eligible to volunteer for a two week session at an agreed upon time. The two weeks of volunteer hours can be used for community service commitment hours. This training week will be led by former NCS Extended Day counselor and current St. Louis Public School educator, Lisa Kargus.

Make-It Workshop

Young Actors' Theater Camp

GRADES: 1 - 7

Campers with a strong interest and ability in performing arts should sign up to be a cast or crew member in this children’s theater production involving full-scale costumes, makeup, set, props, lighting, sound and more. Scripts will be delivered to cast members prior to the start of camp.While all who sign up will be assured a part in the production, auditions for larger roles will be held at the beginning of camp. All campers will receive professional training in acting, vocal, dance and technical instruction. Older campers (4th-7th Grade) who are interested in working solely behind the scenes are welcome. New City School Performing Arts teacher Ben Griffiths and his team return to direct this three week camp. This camp will end with a daytime show for other New City School campers, and two evening shows for family and friends.

In our new state-of-the-art kitchen, young chefs will enjoy lots of culinary action and tasty delights in this hands-on cooking experience. We will shop at a market, harvest and cook veggies from our Centennial Garden, take in a show and take a dip at the neighborhood pool.

Creative Contraption Warning! This is a camp designed by you—the Inventor! Each day you’ll be given a series of challenges which must be overcome using basic materials, simple machines, tips from world famous inventors and the most important thing of all – your mind. With a little bit of ingenuity you’ll construct catapults and forts and then lay siege, fabricate a winning Egg Drop design, construct a dancing robot and assemble a working light saber to take home. Tony Glavin Soccer Camp

GOAL!! FUNdamentals are the main focus of this week long camp experience. Our goal is for all campers to enjoy their time at camp while advancing their skills and love for soccer. We aim for each player to touch the ball thousands of times to improve their touch. This will be set in a fun environment created by the St. Louis Lion’s Camp Staff, which is made up of Top Level Players from the St. Louis Lions. These current USL PDL and future professionals, enthusiastically implement a program designed from a background of great experience and knowledge of the game. Campers will have a unique opportunity to learn from top level, future pros!  The St. Louis Lions have been key to placing over 40 players into pro positions both domestic and internationally including Lawrence Olum of  Sporting KC, John Berner of the Colorado Rapids and Greg Kranz of the St. Louis Ambush to name a few! Let’s not forget Vadim Cojocov who led the camp in 2018 and is now playing for the St. Louis Ambush!

Campers will work to create delicious recipes pulled right out of their favorite literature! We will create journal-style recipe books with illustrations to go with our recipes. Campers will participate in each step of the cooking process: counting, measuring, pouring, mixing, and of course, eating! We will visit a farm and learn more about how food arrives at our tables. We will gather our own fresh ingredients, while enjoying tales such as “The Little Red Hen,” “Let’s Eat Together,” “Chicks and Salsa,” and many more! Come join us in our new state-of-the-art kitchen as we embark on a journey to find the freshest, tastiest ingredients and create something truly extraordinary! We’ll visit the downtown Library, bake at the Cup Cakery, and round out the summer with a trip to the Manchester Waterpark.

Children enjoy fun-filled days exploring drama, visual art, creative movement and music with professional teaching artists. Creative discovery is what it’s all about as the arts disciplines blend together. For instance, campers might create a dance inspired by music they have composed or a sculpture inspired by an improvisation scene they have developed. Children share highlights of their week each Friday afternoon for family and friends. Creative Arts Camp is a great place to make new friends, build self-confidence and nurture imagination.
