Jordan’s Butterfly Garden: Grand Opening!

Last week, fourth graders opened Jordan's Butterfly Garden, a new space on our playground that was designed, built, and decorated by our fourth grade class in honor of their classmate Jordan Powers, who passed away in October of last year. The garden features a bench for reflection and resting, rememberance stones, and many ceramic butterflies, created by Jordan's classmates in her honor.  The variety of plants planted there ensure that we will have a garden full of butterflies.

The grand opening was a celebration of Jordan's life, with stories, singing, and lots of love! On hand to help celebrate Jordan were her many aunts and uncles, and her parents Rachel and Arrick joined via Skype from  Chicago. Heidi Kehle, Jordan's 4/5s teacher, led the group in several songs as each individual remembered the contributions that Jordan made to their class, as well as the special memories that each person will have about Jordan.  The ceremony ended with everyone placing a remembrance rock in the garden area so that others, too, will have the opportunity to think about Jordan from time to time and know what a difference one young person can make in so many others' lives.  Please stop by the garden at any time!
