Last week, Missouri's governor signed into law legislation declaring the pawpaw the official state fruit tree of Missouri! The passing of the bill marks the end of a two-year process, during which our students traveled multiple times to Jefferson City in order to advocate with lawmakers for the paw paw tree, including having testified in front of the Missouri Senate General Bill Committee.
The process started while the students were in 4th Grade; they are now rising 7th Graders, and their grit and persistence has paid off! Congratulations to the students who were able to represent New City at the official signing, and to all of the students involved. Special thanks to Mary, as well, for her inspired leadership and for her crafting such a meaningful educational experience for the students and New City.
