1st Grade Holds a Climate Change Symposium

  • In The Classroom

After watching parts of the nature documentary, Our Planet, 1st Grade students had a lot of strong feelings—so many animals are being affected by their changing habitats. How could the students help to make a difference?

The classes started learning more about climate change, how humans have contributed, and some of the impacts, with teachers letting the students' questions lead their research. Students formed small groups to do more in-depth research on a question that they chose, and prepared a presentation to share with their class. Each group spent time questioning, researching, synthesizing, and collaborating to become experts on climate change.

The week before spring break, the class held a symposium where students gave their presentations. The children left for break with the accomplishment of their first group research projects under their belts! We're so proud of their hard work and determination.
