About POINT

We are excited to announce our new Volunteer Management Platform, POINT! Available in both browser and mobile app, POINT is designed to connect volunteers with causes they care about, and we’re thrilled to use it to keep our school community engaged and informed about volunteer opportunities throughout the year. All parents and caregivers received an email invitation to our organization at the beginning of the school year. Make sure you accept the invite and complete your account to see how you can get involved! Beyond these general areas, you can volunteer for specific events or activities that come up during the school year, with our arts or sports programs, and much more. If you are interested in volunteering in a way that is not listed here, please contact the Family Association Co-Chairs (fa@newcityschool.org). We welcome your ideas, interest, and involvement!

Faculty and Staff Appreciation

Sunshine Cart (Almost Monthly)
The “almost” monthly Sunshine Cart is a well-loved tradition where volunteers with the Family Association visit each classroom and office providing treats and snacks to the faculty and staff. Opportunities include: loading the “Sunshine Cart” with treats and snacks and taking it all around the school on the designated days.

Faculty and Staff Appreciation/Conference Dinners (October and March)
Help organize and host dinners at the school for faculty and staff during Parent-Teacher Conference evenings.

Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week (May)
Volunteers organize a special “Thank You” for our faculty and staff during Appreciation Week.

Community Events

Plant Sale (August/September)
Assist with Fall Plant sales and help organize plant pick-up.

Fall Festival (October)
An absolutely delightful fall day with food, music, and activities like games, contests, and more! Many planning and day-of volunteer opportunities: event organization, greeting guests, selling merchandise, serving food, managing the games and activities, set-up/clean-up and more.

Pen Pal Club (February)
The Pen Pal Club partners students (4/5s through 6th Grade) with another student’s grown-up for a fun letter writing exchange! Help plan this month-long project from communications to families, managing the Pen Pal Mailbox, to organizing the breakfast where Pen Pals get to meet up!

School Picnic (May)
Help with this school-wide end of year celebration held in May. Guaranteed to be an evening of fun activities! From organizing decor, activities, entertainment, and more, there is a place for your input and ideas!

Community Groups and Gatherings (Year-Round)

Interested in meeting up with other families over a shared interest or hobby? The FA assists in facilitating social groups such as the Outdoor Group (family hiking), as well as other meet-up opportunities. All current students accompanied by a family member are welcome. Join us in building community that goes beyond drop-off and pick-up.
