Meet the Staff: Stephanie Stokes, Sixth Grade Teacher

What words best describe you?
Positive, upbeat, hopeful, funny

How long have you been at New City School and what did you do before coming here?
This is my third year at NCS.  Before moving to St. Louis I was living in England and teaching at an American boarding school.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am originally from Jefferson City.  I spent a couple years living abroad so I have done a lot of traveling throughout Europe and Asia.  I love traveling and seeking out new adventures.  My friends and family are the most important thing to me.  I have a niece and a nephew that live in Chesterfield and I enjoy spending time with them.  I have a 9 year old Pomeranian named Effie.  I love being outside - camping, hiking, walking through Forest Park.

What do you like to do when you're not at New City?
I have a second, part-time job at Breeze Blow Dry Bar in Ladue as a hostess.  It is a fun job and I am surrounded by creative, amazing individuals.  I spend a lot of my weekends at Breeze and I really love it.

What did six-year-old Steph want to be when she grew up?
I wanted to be a mom.  Still do!

What is your ideal vacation?
There are so many places left on my bucket list that I’d like to see.  I can’t wait to plan a trip to Africa or South America.

What is something that most people don't know about you?
My best friend is my sister-in-law and her name is also Stephanie Stokes.

What else do you want people to know?
I have really enjoyed being a part of the Spirit Committee this year. Encouraging teachers and students to show school spirit and come up with fun activities to express positivity has been so much fun for me.
