Join this dedicated organization that is leading the way in protecting and preserving our waterways. This is a one-of-a-kind, regionally recognized and respected organization created by and managed by New City students and alumni. Members of this committed group meet one or two Fridays a month all school year to learn about rivers through various field trips, guest speaker engagements, and activities. Additional meetings and events are scheduled as they become available. Membership also includes multiple weekend opportunities to participate in river cleanups, educational festivals, and more. New City teacher, Ben Griffiths, facilitates the work this group does, and we are looking forward to another great River Kids year. This year, paddling adventures will not be offered by River Kids. Contact Ben (firstname.lastname@example.org) directly for information on paddling opportunities provided by other organizations.
A calendar of meeting dates and major events will be distributed at the first meeting on September 26. Additional communications regarding upcoming events and opportunities will be made throughout the year via email. Please make sure the Extended Day office has a current email address upon registration. Also, returning 5th+ graders desiring a position on the River Kids Board should communicate their intent to Ben as soon as possible. River Kids Board members meet once a month in addition to the regular meetings. River Kids Summer Camp week was a BLAST this past summer. We plan to offer it again next summer. Look for that information in early spring.
